Every item has a type: Project, Task, Note, Idea or Action. A document starts with those five, and you can change them or add your own, such as a Customer call with an Outcome and a Followed up box. Card types belong to the document, so everyone working on it sees the same ones, at once.
Open Card Types
In Plan mode, press the Card Types button in the bottom-right corner, where Layers sits in the other modes, or Edit Cards at the foot of the palette's Cards category. The panel lists each type with its colour, its glyph, its fields and how many items have it.
- Add Type makes a new one; press a type to edit it.
- Drag a row to reorder the types, or focus it and hold Alt while you press the up or down arrow. The palette's Cards list follows the same order.
- Restore built-in types puts back the five the document started with.
Edit a type
The type editor opens over the canvas (on a phone, it slides up from the bottom).
- Name, Colour and Glyph: how its cards look.
- Fields: what its item panel offers, in order. Title and Status are always there. Move a field with the arrows, or take it off with the cross.
- Add Field offers the built-in fields the type doesn't have yet (Assignee, Priority, Due date, Checklist...) and New Custom Field: give it a name and a kind, which is Text, Long text, Number, Date, Checkbox, Link or Choice (one of the options you list).
- Edit on a custom field changes its name, its options and Show on card, which draws its value on every card of the type.
- Tabs: where a card's fields show. Each field's row has a picker of Details (the column beside the tabs), the type's tabs, or New Tab… (type a name, then Enter). Under Fields, rename Details and the tabs in place, move tabs with the arrows, and take one off with the cross (up to six tabs). Details and Overview can be renamed but always stay. A type starts with one Overview tab holding its description and checklist.
- Press Save to apply the whole edit, or Cancel to leave it as it was. Undo takes a saved change back.
Taking a field off a type never deletes anything: items keep what they hold in it, and it shows again if you add the field back.
Delete a type
Open the type and press Delete Type. If items have the type, you choose where they go: another type, or Keep as Item, which keeps their fields and shows them as a plain Item card. A board that showed only that type then shows every type.
Where your types show
- The palette's Cards category has a card for each type, ready to drag into a board's column.
- Quick add on a board understands a type's name before a colon:
customer call: Acme renewal. - A board's set-up lists them under Shows, and its rows can be one per type.
