The title bar is the strip across the top of the editor, above the canvas. Reading from left to right, it holds the logo, the document's name, a pill saying who can see the document, a pill saying whether you are editing or viewing it, and at the right edge the button that matters most for this document: Share if it is yours, Copy if it is someone else's. Your account button sits at the very end.
The logo
The logo on the left takes you to the livediagram home page. On a phone it shows without its wordmark. The other parts of livediagram (the Explorer, the Community, Help and more) are links along the foot of the Explorer panel.
The document name
The name sits in the middle of the bar. To rename the document, click the name, type the new one, and press Enter (or click away) to keep it. Escape leaves the old name in place, and clearing the box and confirming keeps the old name too. Names are capped at 60 characters, the same limit the Explorer uses. You can also start a rename from the command palette with Rename Document.
Only people who can change the document's structure can rename it: its owner and anyone on an Editor link. On a Participant or Viewer link, or a link to a single tab, the name is plain text and clicking it does nothing.
The visibility pill
Right after the name, a small pill says who can see this document. It reads one of five words:
- Private: only you can see it.
- Shared: anyone with one of its share links can open it.
- Team: it lives in a team library and every member of the team can open it. A team document with a live share link reads Shared instead.
- Public: it is listed in the Community, where anyone can find it, view it and make their own copy. This wins over Shared and Team, because it is the widest audience there is.
- Local only: it is saved only in this browser, never on our servers (see Offline Mode). This wins over all the others.
Hover the pill, or tab to it with the keyboard, and a legend opens beneath it. At the top it shows Who Can See This for the current state, with rings around a figure of you lit out as far as the document reaches. Under that the four audiences sit on one scale, From Just You to Everyone: Just you (Private), Link (Shared), Team and Everyone (Public), filled up to where the document is now. Hover any other stop to see what it would mean (the heading changes to If It Were). Local only sits apart below the scale, since it is the opposite of sharing: the document never leaves this browser.
If the document is yours, the pill is also a button: clicking it opens the Share dialog, and the legend ends with a Change Who Can See This button that does the same. Everyone else gets the legend to read but no button, since only the owner decides who can see a document.
The pill does not show on a phone (the bar has no room for it), while the welcome screen of a new document is open, in Zen mode, or inside an embed, which hides the whole title bar.
The role pill
After the visibility pill comes a second pill saying what you can do here right now: Editing, Participating or Viewing. It follows your share role: the owner and anyone on an Editor link see Editing, a Participant link shows Participating, and a Viewer link shows Viewing.
Hover the pill to see who owns the document: Owned by you on your own documents, or Owned by and the owner's name on someone else's. When the owner's name is not known, the pill has no hover text.
If your role lets you edit, the pill is a switch. Click Editing and it turns to Viewing: the document becomes read-only, exactly as someone on a Viewer link sees it, so you can check what your viewers will get before you send a link. Click Viewing to go back to editing. The preview only affects you, in this browser tab: nobody else sees a change, nothing is saved, and reloading the page brings you back to Editing.
For a Participant or a Viewer the pill is just a label. Clicking it does nothing, because their link does not allow editing.
Like the visibility pill, the role pill is hidden on a phone, in Zen mode and in embeds. With Minimal Chrome on, it leaves the title bar and becomes a pencil, a ballot box or an eye at the start of the bottom bar, which works the same way.
Share or Copy
The right edge of the bar holds one main action, and which one you get depends on whose document it is.
Share is for the owner. It opens the Share dialog, where you create and manage links. The button turns solid blue once the document has a live link, so you can tell at a glance that it is shared. On a Local only document it asks you to save the document to your account first, since there is nothing on a server to share yet.
Copy is for everyone else who has the document open: someone on a share link of any role, or a team member opening a document a teammate owns. It makes a copy of the document that belongs to you:
Find it again later at the top level of My documents in the Explorer.
Your copy starts Private: no share links come with it, and nothing you do to it touches the original. If you opened the document through a link to a single tab, the copy holds just that tab. You do not need an account to copy; as a guest the copy is saved under your guest identity.
Someone who opened a document from the Community does not get Copy in the title bar. A slim bar under the title bar offers Make a Copy instead, which works the same way.
Your account
At the far right is your account. Signed in, it shows your initial or profile picture; click it for a menu with your name and email, Account (which opens Settings on your account details, without leaving the document) and Sign out. Not signed in, it shows Sign in instead (see Signing In). On a self-hosted copy without sign-in this space is empty.
